Hello Everyone,
I wanted to share the latest information from Governor Newsom with respect to the California Department of Public Health Updates Guidance for Youth Sports.
Softball is considered a moderate team sport that can be played with only incidental or intermittent close contact between participants.
That being said, our local health department and school district have more stringent rules and determine what is allowed.
As of today, this is the directive we received from the Governor's Office:
“No tournaments or events that involve more than two teams to occur. Exceptions may be made, with authorization from the local health department where the event is being held and each of the local health departments where teams originate from.”
BUT EVERYONE IS PLAYING EVERYWHERE!
While this may be true, it is still not permitted under the state & some local guidelines. Believe me, we want to get back on the field as much as everyone else does; however, we value your health so we need to remain compliant. It appears the powers that be (at least where we hold our events) are still divided on whether or not to return to tournament play. It is hard to comprehend how college games are happening when we are so prohibited.
Superior Showcase Softball closely monitors new updates to ensure we are educated, especially when it comes to use of local jurisdiction sports fields.
Bottom line, our upcoming event is postponed again. The new date of our Valentines Day event is April 24/25 and our Presidents Day event will push to May 15/16. With the uncertainty of high school softball and other factors, we encourage you to remain scheduled to play these dates as once it finally opens you will not have to re-register and will retain your spot.
This is frustrating for all of us and I know many will have to scramble to find venues that are playing. Please remember to choose wisely and with the players’ safety in mind. (There is still an outside chance Governor Newsom changes the tier colors next week but that doesn't do many of us any good.)
The virus is still very real and can spread and set us all back - that would be a real drag.
Play safely,
